If the VP was killed during the insurrection, Trump would have had the justification to declare martial law and suspend the transfer of power.

Far-fetched? Maybe not if you consider that Trump's minions stormed the Capitol and disrupted the certification of the election process.

Of course, if the mob had killed Speaker Pelosi or other Democratic leaders, Trump would have probably taken the same course of action.
