The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGiven that many of us here are, according to the quiz, "older than dirt", would it be useful to
form a "buyers' club", some kind of group where we could get discounts on things to assist our dotage? I know many items may be covered by various insurance programs. . .but. .is there need? Is it feasible?
Just an idle thought.

(8,445 posts)I stayed with my blind aunt a lot in the last couple of years of her life to help her get through things, and one very good habit that I learned is to ALWAYS put everything back in the exact spot you got it. This works particularly well with the refrigerator and food cabinets.
I also now always park in pretty much the same spot when I go to my normal stores. Then I never have to stop and think about where I've parked, or look silly wandering around looking for my car.

(8,445 posts)My son laughed at me because he was over one time and realized I keep a password book. Everything is sort of in a code so someone up to no good couldn't just use my book to access my accounts. If I forget that code, well, I'll just have to hang it up, I guess.
Really, what I've done is to put partial words and then dashes. My kids could figure it all out, I think, and that's fine. I trust them.

(8,445 posts)So I guess I learned something today.
So far I'm fortunate enough to not need anything. I get $40 of products every quarter from my supplemental insurance company, which I think is a pretty cool treat.

(8,445 posts)About 15 years ago I had a mini stroke. It took me almost two years to get back to normal, and it taught me to never take my health for granted.
I still make a lot of health mistakes, even though I know better. This past year of pandemic has been tough.

(4,670 posts)At first we were all excited to stock up on necessities. Now we can't get to the $100 every time. There is only so much toothpaste and Band-Aids and vitamins two people can actually use!
This last time I ordered sunscreen. Hopefully I'll have an opportunity to use it. I'm pretty much a sun-shunner, but back in the pre-pandemic life, I'd occasionally participate in sunny events.

(14,838 posts)I think they have group discounts and buyers club like stuff, but I'm not a member. I did get an email at 50, but they have left me alone since.
In any case, lots of stores have senior discounts. You just have to ask.
