(47,523 posts)In many of the stories that you bring to us - many thanks, again - there is often a pet, usually a dog that is part of the kindness.

Sorry to say, we've had a great deal of trouble with raccoons killing chickens and ducks on our farm. We trap them and relocate.

(12,618 posts)They are territorial and aggressive and will defend territory that they see as theirs. We had a raccoon stake a claim to our backyard in a tree. It ended up slashing our Whippets face so bad that her ear was hanging by a thread when she came in. The vet was able to sew it back on. We're just lucky that its claws missed her eye.
Like you, we had it trapped and taken elsewhere. I have nothing against raccoons and understand nature will be nature, but, yeah, people should be aware that they don't always play nice and can pose a danger to your pets. And don't let your children pet them, no matter how cute they are.

When I was in high school, I took cafe of a baby raccoon for about a week while his human mom had to be out of town. His name was Brady, and he captured my heart completely. I sobbed my eyes out when I had to give him back.
