CHICAGO – Cats really do have nine lives.

Chicago Fire Department tweeted out a video of a black cat jumping out of the window of a burning Englewood building Thursday. Miraculously, the black cat landed on its feet and survived.

Firefighters caught the death-defying jump on video.

“Cat hit grass bounced and walked away!” Chicago fire tweeted.

Looked into his mouth to see if his palate was broken.

Cats that fall/jump from great hights sometimes face grave injuries to thier brain and back from the impact, that can kill them in a few hours or days.

The broken palate is a sign of damage.

Cracked palate or not I would have scooped up his furry butt asap and took him to the emergency vet!

for possible injuries. But catching it to do that would be difficult, I think. It must have been frightened and traumatized by the experience. Probably took off to a quiet place to be alone.
