(1,786 posts)I sit outside about 6 hours a day. My cat fuzzy found my lap and sat there for 5 hours. She regularly sits there for an hour or two unless it starts to get too hot. I fell asleep for two hours and that helped. I also had to pee the last hour until I could hold it no longer. Luckily she hopped off about that time right before I was going to remove her.

(1,786 posts)She is my favorite cat now and is a real sweetheart. In my YouTube here, she is the one in the tree in the middle of this clip.

(12,480 posts)Lap cat. He would sit in my lap 24-7 if I never had to pee. I miss him so much. He passed several years ago. Not a day goes past I don't think of him and Rustle.
But now a new king Othello rules my heart.

(24,007 posts)I miss my lynx point kitty, Mocha. Little thing - max weight 6 pounds. She was like having a permanent kitten.
I enjoy your Othello posts.

(12,660 posts)Fell asleep in the recliner for three hours after thee hours reading while recovering from a broken foot. Got up to use the bathroom, came back, cat jumped back in my lap and spent another two hours there until the kidlet poured more kibble in the bowl. Moggy was a big old black snuggle kitty.
Current black kitty, Goblin, only weighs 7 lbs and will sneak on laps or crawl into sweaters and spend hours trying to keep you from noticing she's on you. I really need to get one of those Baby wrap comfort carriers for her so she can stay on my chest with nose in my armpit for hours and I will still be able to do work.

(12,660 posts)So long as we don't need to have it on to participate in the cloud system meetings, I won't have to share distracting video of a cat butt sticking out of the front of my sweaters or poncho and a lump massed on my chest and armpit underneath while I'm trying to talk technical or engineering matters to government and military brass.

(14,275 posts)He does permit me to go to the bathroom. I tell him "I have to pee. I'l be right back". And he waits for me. We pick right back up where we left off.
He hangs with my wife all day. He is at my side once the sun goes down. It's a nice arrangement.

(21,496 posts)was very affectionate and loved sitting in my lap while I read or watched TV, for 2 or 3 hours at a time. He got mad if I got up before he was ready to get down - gave an angry mumble and tried to hold me down with his paws. Even when not in my lap, e.g when I sat at the table, he would lie down on the chair nearest me and reach his paw under the table to rest it on my leg, just to maintain physical contact.
But my current cat, a tortoiseshell tabby female, is totally opposite. Does not like to be held. She will sometimes sit next to me on the couch when I watch a movie, if it's one that gets her interest. (She likes movies.) But, sit on my lap? I'd be honored to get 5 seconds from her.
However, when I go to bed at night, or even if I lie down on the couch for a nap, she hops up next to my face, touches her forehead to mine, and wants me to scratch behind her ears. She would do this forever if I didn't get tired and fall asleep. When I stop, she nudges my hand for more. When I finally stop, she either jumps down to the floor or lies down by my feet.

(6,122 posts)The cat I have now, Yogi, is my first lap cat. I love every minute of his lap naps.

(24,007 posts)Out female tuxie loves to be on my lap if I have a fuzzy blanket over it. She will knead for several minutes before settling in. No blanket, no lap sitting.
Our male tabby loves to sit beside me, especially when I am on my computer at the kitchen island. Usually to my left, and he will get as close as he can, purring all the while. He will head butt my arm or my face, and reach out and tap me with one of his paws when he wants ear or chin scritches. When he really wants to get even closer, he will lie down right next to my arm and put his head and front paws over my wrist, quite effectively pinning me down - he weighs 15 pounds. Not fat - just a BIG dude.
Our most recently departed cat was a lap cat, a chest cat, a neck cat. If my husband and I were sitting together on the couch, he would be right there, and would typically position himself so that he was touching both of us.
