They're making these calls over the internet now, so it doesn't cost them anything to dial phone numbers in the USA. Unlike the pre-internet days, when long-distance phone calls used to cost more than they make in a day.

(17,444 posts)His English was much like the Indians I worked with and unlike the Chinese and Japanese I knew.
The caller ID was spoofed as a local cell number with only the last 4 numbers different than mine.

(32,645 posts)I have Nomorobo software that catches about 98% of those calls and marks them as "spam."
Life is so much easier now.
