(22,898 posts)For some reason, I've always thought of men as being more likely to have dogs, while women are more likely to have cats.
Obviously, that isn't the case.
Introverts = cats?
Extroverts = dogs?

(4,079 posts)My hubby is a serious introvert. I'm a pretty outgoing extrovert. (Otherwise we never would have met .)
Been married thirty years, and we've always had cats.
I think we both like that they are so independent, but also so loving. We both like dogs, but I'm not sure we would ever bring one into the family. We're definitely cat people.

(22,898 posts)I did find one who much preferred cats to dogs and I married him!
(not the only criterion, but an important one)

(5,914 posts)Sometimes multiples of each at the same time. More of them than of me. It was great fun.
I miss a lot of them.

(67,782 posts)I got home from work one day and was going up the walkway to the front door of our building. A small all-black kitten followed me the whole way (about 30-40 feet)
I didn't let her in, but when I got to our apartment I told my about it and asked, "do you think we should feed it?" She sheepishly answered, "I already did!"
We had to go to a CPR class that night, but while out decided we'd bring it in. We heard her, but couldn't find her, so brought some food down near where she first saw us. She jumped out of the mailbox enclosure and gobbled it down.
We had her for over 10 years.
Yep, we didn't find her, she found us!

(21,558 posts)Named him Merlin. He was mostly an indoor cat, but occasionally got the urge to roam and slipped out the door on me. He was so good at giving me the slip that I nicknamed him Hoodini. But he always returned within a day or two.
For a week before and after Halloween, I took extra care to keep Merlin inside and away from the door because it is not safe for a black cat to be out prowling around at that time of year.

(205,790 posts)Two of them I have rescued from outside, my cat Felix who I have now I found as a kitten in a supermarket parking lot in 2014. He wasn't anxious to be caught, it took a guy who worked at the store and his wife who came to pick him up to help me - turns out the little guy was only about 7 weeks old according to the vet, and he has grown into a beautiful cat.

(21,558 posts)Merlin was long-haired, too, the only long haired cat I ever had. When he was a kitten, his long, bushy tail made hin look like a black squirrel. His green eyes had a hint of blue and a glowing quality that stood out against his black fur.
I got Merlin from the local Humane Society when he was 8 weeks old. I had just separated from my husband and my life was a bit hectic so his calm demeanor and purr while he was in the cage appealed to me. Boy, was I wrong. He was a mischievous live wire. Full of character.
I was taking classes and rooming with another student in her home. Her dining room had a row of 5 tall, floor to ceiling windows with Venetian blinds on them. She was obsessive about having each blind at the same level about midway down the windows. One day when I was doing homework at the dining room table, Merlin played with the dangling cord on one of the blinds. He accidentally triggered the blind release and it clattered down to the window sill.
The roommate ran into the room, yelling about the blind and put it back at the midway point. When she left the room, Merlin got over his initial shock over the noise and went back to investigate. He triggered the release again and when the roommate raised hell about it, Merlin ran under the table to hide near my legs for protection.
He did not like the roommate so I am convinced that his next move was deliberate, to get a rise out of her. When she went back to the kitchen where she was cooking, Merlin strolled over to the windows and, starting at one end, he went down the whole row, swatting each cord and they all clattered down full length. I took him into my room to escape her wrath, laughing the whole time.
He was full of antics like that.
