That movie Nomadland made an impression on people. If my house gets destroyed by a hurricane, I'm going to get me a big van, remodel it, and hit the road. I think it would be nice to go around the country and check out the scenery, maybe get a temp job now and then. I really don't have much extra money to spend now, so I have to stay home all the time. At least if I hit the road I'll always be seeing new places.

You do need big savings to do this.

Gas is getting more expensive every day, though. I don't know what I'll do, but I don't think I'll rebuild, at least not here. Every year I dread hurricane season and I think about what I'll do if everything I have gets destroyed. It's coming up on the first of June. They say this is supposed to be a very active season. I'm sick of rebuilding over and over again. If I buy another house, it won't be on the coast.

when not being used for family trips. We're using one next month for our "Yay, everyone got vaccinated" camping trip.

But, my daughter said that she didn't like the idea of all of us sharing one bathroom. I think her reservation comes from the time that we had to charter a bus to go to a soccer tournament for her travel team, and one of her friends dropped a rather smelly cag in the bus bathroom. The entire back of the bus had to be vacated.

And have been driving around the country. We all have worked from home for over a year and will be working from home until at least Jan ‘22 per our Corp leadership. They are all just working from the road. If I didn’t have kids, I’d be moving around and working from anywhere also.

Actually, a lot of them have chosen to not have kids, and if they can hook up to the internet, a lot of them can work from home, even if home changes every week or two.

There are a few long-term RV parks that will let near half the RVs stay in one spot on a 3 to 6 month lease pretty much indefinitely, so long as the residents have a regular paycheck or pension that will cover lot rental and utilities.

The guy I knew lived with his wife and two small dogs with a military pension to pay for the spot while they both worked for everything else. They had a nice 40' RV with three pull-outs, a parking pad, and enough "yard" he put up a 10x6 insulated shed with electricity so he could put in a couple recliners, a big screen TV, and have his buddies over for beer and sports and not bother his wife.
They live there still.

and a used trailer (looks kind of like a short 5th wheel) which they parked on the property. They escape up there almost every weekend. Eventually they will move there; they are really retro - they plan to build a dome house.

The bad news is they are now in Gosar's Congressional District. I asked her if she knew she was moving to the Insanity District and she said "Yes! and I can't wait to vote against him"

What cracks me up is that folk like me have been doing this for years! Myself and some friends call ourselves "The Deadhead Drivers Association" if you see a windshield banner on a van,R.V. Or Schoolie that says "Pro Street" that's one of us.
Bought my first live in van ( 71 V.W.) in 1977,
Next was a 76 Dodge shorty,
Then a 67 Chevy C-10 with an overhead camper,
Next was a 71 full size Ford B-600 converted Schoolie, Then a hot rodded 72 V.W van
Next was a '91 Dodge B150 shorty van
We currently have a 90 Chevrolet G-20 Conversion (all done up right, new everything mechanical,12 volt power, lighting,C.B, ect ) which is my lady's and my '03 Dodge 2500 3/4 ton conversion van.
What amazes me is considering all the information that is available at one fingertips just how many of these kids will drop 40k or more on a Sprinter or a new Class C and not even bother to learn how to use it! I can't count the number of times someone has asked me "How does this or that work"! (Generator, water systems, Solar ect.)
The other thing that really gets to me is the "Instagrammers" who make the lifestyle sound like all Mountain ranges and Cool hot springs! They don't tell you about the Flat Tires, blown engines (a V.W
Trait, lol) Parking issues, Weather or the occasional Trumpster getting in your face and calling you all kinda things!
A newbie member of our group bought a Sprinter without looking at it first and just about died when her auto tech told her that the repairs were gonna be about 14k before it would be travel worthy.
It's not all Rainbows and Sunsets...but is it worth it? Yes! Anything is worth it if one is committed enough.
