(2,529 posts)3. In my youth, my aunt and uncle saved and raised a baby red squirrel.
It used to have the run of their entire house, would race up the curtains and fly across the furniture, then take naps on my uncle's shoulder. After about a year, they released it on my grandfather's wooded property.
We'd show up and call for the squirrel and watch as the damn thing raced through the trees to come for a visit.
My uncle still thinks it was the most entertaining pet he ever had.

but yeah, they'll stick around and come see their people for years.
They're cute and can be sweet but they really make rotten indoor pets when they're full grown. They're furry cannon balls with claws.
