Here's the mountain lion that was spotted roaming around Bernal Heights.
He's been captured and will be returned to the wild.

(21,794 posts). . .maybe it's mating season, and those things do happen.
In my area, we've had black bears wandering around a golf course or the back of a shopping center. They were captured and released back to the wild.

(14,855 posts)When I camped deep in Point Reyes (north of San Francisco/Oakland), I kept hearing a different sound.
It would stop, then resume doing it near my tent after I finally fell asleep again. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night.
I assumed it was some kind of large and loud bird, never experienced by me. I'm relieved that I never left my tent to attempt to scare it away!
It was a female mountain lion in heat, which sounded even more bird-like than this recording:

(14,855 posts)The female mountain lion that kept lingering around my tent would get quiet when I finally yelled out for it to shut up, and I heard some faint rustling of flora like it was walking away. Then it would come back later to do it again.
I had no idea it was a mountain lion until later, though. I recorded one of the incidents with my video camera, just for the audio.
Edit: Here's a picture of where it happened. All of my food was locked away in the metal storage box seen in the foreground, and the other loose gear on the table was later moved inside the tent.

(12,480 posts)He's so scared and exhausted.
He is also so beautiful.
Protect him Sekhmet and be sure he returns to his wild home. All involved in his return unharmed.
