Remember when school boys went to 'wood shop' and built stuff ?

For me that was 7th grade when I was 13 or 14 (around 1959).

One day the instructor approached me while I was working alone in a corner of the ‘wood shop’.
He told me if I’d take my penis out and show him, he’d tell me what size condoms to buy.
I got embarrassed, backed away, and repressed that memory until a couple years ago.

I forgot his name long ago, but I wonder how many boys he approached over his ‘teaching career’.

I’m sorry that happened to you. We had an art teacher who apparently drank at school and I think he got busted for trying to take advantage of teenage girls. This was in our middle school

We nor our parents freaked out about it.

Now it surprises me. The reaction. Not the fact there was a gay teacher.

70’s - art teacher in the HS was “flamingly” gay in this 99% white, religious, conservative town. Everybody loved him, he got no flak at all, surprisingly. He still lives there and was finally able to marry his partner of many years, a music teacher from the next district over.

The amount of sexual abuse that goes on in our public schools is frighteningly high. A friend of mine who was abused pointed out that we have "active shooter" drills in our schools, for the 4 or 5 a year that happen nation wide, but there are no trainings or drills for teacher sexual abuse, even though it's probably going on in every school system in the nation.

At my high school, back in the early '60s, there was a boys' gym teacher who was infamous for making the boys stand naked in a row holding their gym clothes while he checked to be sure the clothes were clean (right...). I never heard that he touched anybody, but he sure creeped the kids out.

The father of one of my early childhood friends, who lived next door to us, creeped me out from a very early age. He was a very uptight and overly-strict military guy for starters, but he also seemed not genuine to me somehow.

I then made the mistake of going with them to a public pool one time, and he yanked me out of the water when he saw that I was wearing underwear under my swimming trunks! (The elastic band of the underwear had become barely visible above the trunks.) I always did that because the trunks never gave me enough support down there, but he freaked out about it.

Then he took me to the restroom / locker room area and demanded that I remove everything and then put on only the outer trunks. I asked him to look away, but he refused as he kept staring at that area. So I pivoted away and did it fast. If looks could kill from me, he would have immediately dropped dead after it was done.

When I later saw "American Beauty" years later, the military neighbor/father in that film reminded me so much of that childhood neighbor.

I later grew apart from the friend next door. He tried to commit suicide with pills when he was a teenager, by the way, but he survived. We saw the ambulance next door, and his parents wouldn't tell my mother what happened. His mother later told my mother about the suicide attempt, though.

Our school’s creepy teacher was the chemistry instructor who also taught shop (very small school). He liked the cheerleaders and would invite the girls into the chemical supply room with him to get supplies for the class. He was “invited” to find another line of work.
