What street did you live on in the 3rd grade? Dude, I'm 73 years old and can barely remember my name. You really expect me to remember that shit?
What was your first teacher's name? Ditto, see above.
Can't they make these questions a little more relevant, like say something that occurred in the last decade?

(21,949 posts)The worst is when a site asks you for a complex password that contains at least 12 characters, a lower case letter, an upper case letter, a number, and a special character (which is a reasonable request by the way), but then completely undermines that secure password by asking you for a recovery question like "What was your first teachers name?" or "What street did you grow up on?" -- questions that someone who knows you could answer, possibly quite easily.
A complex password is completely irrelevant if it can be simply bypassed with a piece of easily-guessed information.
I mean if a site asked you to use your mother's maiden name as your password, people would think that was completely insecure. But asking for a complex password and then asking for your mother's maiden name to recover that password is essentially the exact same thing.

(4,392 posts)There probably more than one Cray machine looking all over the globe to get passwords, et al, personal information to enhance the criminal experience and wallet. I'm doubtful even a hidden Luddite can escape the possibility that one won't be "found" and "made" in the digital world, cradle to grave; even afterwards since I'm still getting mail for a deceased loved one who NEVER lived here...

Such as:
Did you have a dog you cried over? What was its name?
I love old-fashioned names. What was your Mom's name?
Without saying the month, use a word to describe your birth month.
Cut me a break. Bare-faced attempts to find answers to you security questions!

(12,132 posts)but I'm only 57 so it's easier for me.
We only lived there a year and some change before moving to Texas but I remember my teacher's name was Mrs. Henry. One of 2 elementary school teacher's names I remember. I remember her for being so very kind and encouraging.
2nd grade teacher Mrs. Ockerman, however, well let's just say it doesn't bother me she can longer "teach" other kids..

(6,261 posts)I didn't have one. I hated all of them. Even if I had one, why assume I still recall the name and have it at hand?

(23,341 posts)I know which it is at this moment. Ask me in five minutes.
Same with favorite movie, actress, etc.

(34,136 posts)Like "What is your mother's maiden name?" My husband and I use his mother's school nick name - which is no official records and written no where on the internet.
I do similar things for the other questions. The only time I ran into problems was for a site that not only wanted the answers, but they wanted me to remember the damn questions - with no hints to help. Screw that - I only need that site about once a year so I just jump through the hoops to reset the password and all the security questions which I am not going to remember or write down anywhere.
