Curious to know if decorative jewelry is worn on the ring finger of the left hand other than wedding rings.

(2,636 posts)I wore my grandmother's ring, a marquis cut ruby with diamonds, to ward off overly friendly playas in my misspent twenties. Could always move it to different hand if any one interesting was around.
Know several men who wear their service academy rings where their wedding ring ought to go. I wear my mother's wedding ring on my right ring finger, and I'm eyeing a new anniversary band for my wedding ring finger, just to change things up after twenty years.
Do what you want.

You go, Girl!
I didn't even know that was a thing, unless you're going to a singles event or something and nervous people might specifically be looking so you might want to avoid doing that if you choose. Unmarried people don't have to avoid doing things just because married people do them. They can even have kids and buy homes. They don't have to care what others might think if they wear a ring on the left hand. We're not in Mad Men.

(16,455 posts)As long as it's not on the left ring finger, I say wear anything you want.
Also, if it's not something that would be readily mistaken for a wedding band, I say wear anything you want on the left ring finger.
Not sure if Miss Manners would concur, but I don't think many people are hung up on those traditions these days.

(9,669 posts)the Orthodox priest placed it upon almost 37 years ago. That might be a tradition more common outside of the U.S., dunno.
The other reason, and a biggie, is that rings sometimes get caught on things causing severe injury. Or worse. It's not uncommon. If you're a musician relying on your left hand to play a fretboard, be careful. Think of Jimmy Fallon's left ring finger accident many years ago. Not sure if he's gained full use again but anecdotally, I don't see him playing guitar like he once did.
I'm just saying be careful with rings and things that can get hooked and take fingers off with it. Then again, Django Reinhardt suffered burn injuries to his left hand leaving him with a few useful fingers and his thumb. Who would've told him he couldn't play?

It's actually more comfortable wearing rings on my left hand because I'm left handed and that hand is a little bit smaller than the right.
