she's no longer my top pick. She'not the worst at all but she's a little too full of herself and would eventually get on my nerves. It's back to Anderson, Aaron and the Jeopardy Producer. I know we still have a few more guest hosts.

(269,054 posts)and way too ''nuff'' as we say She was upbraiding the contestants tonight for not knowing the question for one answer and she talks about her qualifications a lil too much for my liking.

I see what youre saying though.
Shes a quick and funny and smart Sagittarius, and rubbing people the wrong way is on brand.

(269,054 posts)No one who publicly campaigned for the job should get it.
She is quick, smart and funny but she's too ''nuff''

(62,423 posts)when the show returned after the long hiatus from the '60s?
I always thought Art Fleming was the best. Trebek slowly matured into the role.
Whoever is selected will have a break-in period that may be a couple of years.
I really like Bialik, but it will take her some time to get a rhythm and some patter. That is also true of all the others with the exception of the producer. I think his closeness to the show has allowed him to become as if he were already in charge.
I think having a woman as the host of a game show that has traditionally been the place for an "in charge". man would speak a lot. I also think that having someone with the academic credentials of a Bialik would send quite a message to young women.
But I know that Jeopardy is a commercial show and not a social crusade.
As for me, as long as the questions are good I really don't care a lot who is the host.
malaise
(269,054 posts)I also preferred Fleming to Trebek, but eventually it didn't matter. And yes it is about the questions which is why I prefer an unobtrusive host. I don't think anyone should be selected because of their gender. I want the best host.

He is 45 and by far the most experienced of all of them.

Maybe a little TOO upbeat. People complained that Katie Couric was too upbeat, too. I can see a parallel there.
And I definitely didnt like her chiding the contestants when none of them knew the correct question. The host should never do that!
I really liked Anderson Cooper but I seem to be in the minority.

(4,750 posts)Disliked Oz and Bialik agree with you, malaise, that Bialiks a little too full of herself, or maybe shes just trying too hard. Wasnt crazy about Couric, who seemed a little canned to me.
I like Jennings in general, but I didnt like his voice, which I consider important in a job that calls for so much talking.
Nobodys mentioned Bill Whitaker, whom I liked. He was low-key but very smooth in keeping things going, and he had a sense of humor.
Also liked Cooper, Rodgers, and Richards. Buzzy may be my favorite so far the opposite of Whitaker, but good at staying on top of the game, like Whitaker.
I think it will be Jennings in the end, though.
malaise
(269,054 posts)Whitaker is too old. Don't like Jennings - thinks he's still competing. Like your other picks but I think Buzzy is too loud.
Savannah Guthrie was a complete surprise - completely unobtrusive - was a little nervous at the start but did a good job - let's see how she works out for the two weeks.

(4,461 posts)Something off of their bucket list. For example, Katie, Savannah, Oz, and yes even Anderson .
Others like Aaron, Mayim, Buzzy and Jennings are in it to win it.
I still want to see Ben Bailey get a shot at it. Somebody above mentioned Jeffrey Wright, he would be good! And Im going to throw it out there, Bryan Cranston would be my ultimate dream host, but that would be shooting for the stars.
