Remarkable color footage of a drive down Sunset Strip in 1963. This was back when the Whisky A Go-Go was called the Party, the Rainbow was the Villa Nova, and The Roxy was a strip joint called Largo. Also notice the 9000 building under construction next to Scandia.

(25,816 posts)1. 1963 I was 13 and the price of a new VW Beetle was $1550.
I was across the ocean in '63. Cool footage. Great cars back then, I thought. Now I realize
what gas hogs and polluters they were.

(5,935 posts)2. Very cool! Here's a part of the video synched up to the same drive in 2016
This clip doesn't include the near collision with the blue 1961 (I think) Impala.

Her car had big fins, drove like a boat, had power windows strong enough to crush a child's fingers, and cigarette lighters in the back seat me and my siblings played with.
The smog in Los Angeles was horrible some days, it burned our eyes and made it difficult to take a deep breath.
This was my normal grandmother. The rest of my grandparents were, to put it kindly, eccentrics.

at least 2 red lights.
