It's his first birthday since my mom passed last July.
This is going to sound morbid, but I always assumed that when one of them died, the other wouldn't be far behind. They were married for 70 years, and were a couple for 4 years before that. All they've ever known was being together. Anyway, I'm glad to be wrong about this.
I'm making a homemade chocolate cake to bring over this afternoon. Peanut butter frosting.

(32,006 posts)They look like a sweet couple who were genuinely devoted to each other!
And, dont feel badly about feeling morbid, ... a lot of couples who are together for so many years go that route... but, Im glad your dad is hanging in there. You sound like a devoted daughter. I know how much you miss your mom from your previous posts.
I hope he enjoys his delicious homemade birthday cake!

Probably why they were able to stay married so long.

(6,594 posts)We always thought the same about my dad, that he would pass within 6 months after mom did, but he lived another 3+ years, until last Wednesday. When mom passed they were a week away from their 75th anniversary.
I wish your dad many more years of happiness!

(38,560 posts)When my folks celebrated their 60th anniversary, we got them a gift certificate to get a portrait done.
The portrait may have been touched-up a little by the professional photographer. But Dad has always looked very young for his age. Mom too. I'm hoping I got that gene.
