Michael Galdolfini steps into his late father James' role as Tony Soprano in the first trailer for The Many Saints of Newark, the prequel movie to The Sopranos coming to theaters and HBO Max on October 1.

2. I'm happy that David Chase

encouraged him to take the part. I bet the cast did all they could to help him. Got to be a bit scary for such a young man to step up into his dads role. I always thought James Gandolfini gave his heart to the role of Tony. The power in his acting had to put some stress on him.

3. All of the characters resembled their older selves.

Michael Gandolfini gave me chills — the eyes, the voice inflection — nobody else could play young Tony. The actress who portrays Livia Soprano seems to have a lot of Carmela vibes to her — that would explain a lot. Christopher’s dad also looked like him.

Really looking forward to this.
