I was checking my bank account the other day and found a transaction for -$3.00 to this organization:
07/05/2021 ALL FOR ARMENIA HTTPSALLFORAR -3.00
I did not use my debit card to give this place $3.00.
Seems my debit card was used to do this.
Oddly, I rarely use my debit card, only on rare occasions.
Although it seems like a small amount of money to be unaccounted for, this is how it begins.
I contacted my credit union where the account is located and they shut it down at once and mailed me a new debit card via Federal Express.
Beware everyone!
The thieves are out with long knives as the old saying goes!

(14,627 posts)I only use my debit card at the grocery store or other retailers where the card never leaves my hand.
For all other transactions I use a credit card. I even use a credit card at the gas station because it seems to be relatively easy for crooks to install a skimmer on a gas pump that can steal your data.

Sent me the password for it... I ripped it up.
Sent a letter asking if I got them... I ignored it.
They stopped.
I have not found any instance where the credit card would not work and it has better protection for fraud.

(20,876 posts)I need it to withdraw cash from an ATM if I need some.
That is the only time I use it in fact which is once every month or two, so not often.
Beware folks and check your accounts (TODAY IF YOU CAN!).
Take care everyone!

(113,071 posts)My local Habitat Restore switched to a different credit/debit card machine vendor that added a small surcharge. Customers hated it and they switched back after a couple months.
3.00 sounds like its a surcharge that goes to a designated charity chosen by the proprietor of a store or restaurant using that type of vendor.

It was a hack and I caught it luckily.
I am astute about checking my accounts. I maintain a physical hand-written ledger still.
I'm glad I still do things the old fashioned way!
This could have mushroomed into one huge nightmare.
I am still checking ALL accounts that I have which include a few credit cards as well!
Better safe than sorry!

(2,177 posts)I paid with my debit card, but he did not just swipe it, he took a picture on his phone. Six hours later the bank alert me there was possible fraudelent purchases on my card. Sent me a new one. Now I never let anyone take a picture of my debit card.

(7,423 posts)Those are the temporary credit card numbers that you can generate and use when shopping online and set limits on and cancel anytime.
The trouble is, banks seem to be dropping support for them. They are such a great solution. Bank of America's system was called ShopSafe, which they discontinued a while back.
Why discontinue it??
Not only did they make stolen card numbers less inconvenient, they also allowed you to pinpoint which merchant leaked the card number. It seems like banks don't like that. They prefer to keep the misdeeds of the merchants opaque. There's no other explanation for why they would drop support for that.

(6,261 posts)Seriously, what's wrong with e.g. "Shell Gas Station, 123 Main Street Anytown, USA" rather than
something like "CRAPOILPRODUCTSFOROLDCARS.COMWEWANTYOURMONEY"?
I can't make heads or tails of more and more of these items on my statement recently. I wonder to what extent many are intentionally obscure.

(2,025 posts)I don't understand why somebody who would go to all the trouble to hack into your debit card account would then ding it for such a small amount. Doesn't make any sense at all. There's something else going on here besides the apparent petty theft.

(20,876 posts)They are hoping you won't notice it and that you'll just let it go or not notice it.
Then the fun begins!
The next thing you know other things begin to show up, often in the thousands of dollars.
It becomes a huge nightmare.
Anyway, no more problems for me being I caught it straight off and closed that card out.
Despicable people! Despicable!
