Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI just had to send a wellness (police) check on my Sis in Texas-lucky it worked out Ok.
Just finished getting of the phone thanking the local PD.
She had me listed as emergency contact for her Dr. When she did not show for a scheduled colonoscopy this AM they called me. I shrugged it off at 1st and told them she probably was tired of all the "attention". But I also wrote an e-mail telling her I needed to hear back asap. Then another & called both her cell & house #'s (no answer).
She works from home and I don't even know the name of her employer. Just a auto insurance outfit. Anyhow...
I had no real choice after not hearing from her. I sent a wellness check. Called the non emergency line.
The curtains were drawn, No car visible but she has a closed garage. Officers called back & without any direct reason they were unable to go inside. I thanked them & told them I would call the doctors office back & see is she had decided to show up.
And thankfully after a few transfers I had a answer -she had shown up late.
Wish she had her phone on but I get it. I may have been hasty but I don't think so. Just glad it wasn't a emergency.

(2,533 posts)I waited a bit over an hour after the calls & e-mails. And of course that was when she was probably on her way.
It becomes a paradox though if she had not gotten back to me. I would still have to wait a period of time I think is what the officer told me. Basically no answer from a knock but he can't see inside so has no reason for entry. And totally reasonable at this point.
But what if-that would have haunted me for sure. But I'm in Oregon & don't have funds to fly out. So I really appreciate the ability to have a person of authority do a wellness check. That is where we need to rely on our public service. Sadly this is no always the case as we know.
