Still am.

I think the lyrics are meant to be of a father waiting for his son Danny to return from war.

You hear many young singers who think their best bet is to copy Christina Aguiliera.

Her tone is magnificent.

(Don't even start me on the singing of the National Anthem.........)

with everything you said.

I have to make myself stop listening to it over and over. It's beautiful, but the lyrics are very moving.

Always loved this song. My grandfather whose Mom came from Ireland (County Cork), was a singer. This was one of his favorites. Think of him whenever I hear it.

Meaning
There are various conjectures about the meaning of "Danny Boy".[5] Some interpret the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to a war or participating in the Irish uprising (as suggested by the reference to "pipes calling glen to glen&quot or emigrating as part of the Irish diaspora.[5]

The 1918 version of the sheet music with Weatherly's printed signature included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear&quot , with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". Nonetheless, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly's intent.[6]
