and she knows it. Boy, am I paying. She's very old, could have dementia, but the accusing, baleful looks are getting to me. I told her she could have a different kind of cat food, which I know she wants, just because she likes to switch up every now and then. But, I didn't get it, and now we are fighting. Pestering me night and day. Making angry, anguished meows just to point it out. It's not enough to feed a good, balanced diet with clean water. Now, you have to cat-er to their every whim, or you won't get any sleep. My cat is not sick. She is the queen, and wants what she wants. And doesn't mind telling me. I suspect that she will get what she wants, shortly. I am the weak one. She knows it.

(118,677 posts)to be the boss of him for God's sake. I took note of the criticism. Meowing doesn't work on me because i can block out any noise. Sometimes my little one will meow for an hour (They have free access to dry food all day).

(6,537 posts)My cats--all of them--down through the years have requested to keep their food bowls completely full at all times. They will come and get me to fill their bowls, and when I point out that they actually have food, they will start talking to me until I add to their stash. I guess it's a point of view.

The put-out, long-suffering look on his face when I just shake the bowl to even out the food is priceless.

(5,177 posts)because my cats won't let me back into the house without them.
My blonde cat Gisela asks very politely for treats with a little chirp of a meow that I call the 'secret word'. My grey tabby with four white boots occasionally begs with a much fuller meow, sometimes from a nearby room. I always have to get up and find her to make sure she's ok. Then she gets her treat.

(6,537 posts)my most beloved cat, the first one who taught me what it was to be a cat and a cat servant, the one who decided I was everything in the world and wanted to do everything with me, who wasn't interested in even tasting human food. Then one day, I was eating KFC white breast, and he decided, oh, what the heck...I gave him a bite...
The expression on his face, the excitement that he showed...I ended up having to "share" the whole danged thing with him. We added that into his treats, and it was our guilty little secret.
They're not like dogs. They are discriminating. But, it's only fair, since I plan to share their food if I fall on hard times. Family rules.

(25,861 posts)I keep on being asked if anyone mistreats me, or if I'm afraid to go home.
I sigh, and say my cat likes to bite. Otherwise, no.
My current cat is wonderful, of course (and we should all think that of our companion animals) but for her biting is a form of playing. I've figured out how to handle it.
Earlier today on FB someone posted something about their cat waking them up at the crack of dawn to be fed. I posted that all of my cats learned early on that I don't get up early and they get fed whenever it is I finally get up. Honestly, as much of a cat person as I am, I will not get up early to feed them. Nope. My sleep time is far more important.

(6,537 posts)Cats are affectionate that way. Some bites are real, some are advisory, and some are nibbles of affection.

(22,264 posts)who are very excellent yowlers. Our other 3 cats are very quiet.
The old guys get special canned food and have free access to dry kibble.
One of our other cats ignores them and their food. HE begs for catnip and grazes the dry food
His younger sibling begs for the bathroom faucet to be set on dribble so she can drink from it. Occasionally she will clean out the bottom of the soft food dishes but also grazes the dry food
The fifth cat is so standoffish we named her Elliot Ness because you can't touch her. After we found out she was actually female we changed her name to Ellie. I feel sorry for her because she is missing out on so much that an indoor cat should enjoy. However she is madly in love with one of the Old Guys and snuggles with him regularly.
