Hello, old me

When I was 10 years old, I liked to climb onto our garage roof and lie there and look for animal shapes in the clouds and think deep thoughts. One day, while pondering the meaning of life and what it's all about, I said aloud to my future self, who I imagined was out there somewhere, "Hello, old me." When I "heard" a grown-up voice in my head reply, "Hello, young me" I was so startled, I jumped off the roof and hurt my ankle.

I'm in my 70s now, and the other day when my ankle began to ache, which it has on and off through the years, I remembered that time on the roof, and said, "Hello, young me."

Was like me. But I laid in the side yard on the grass, looking up at the blue sky and clouds trying to decide where infinity came from. I still do not have the answer.
