Today I've been throwing caution to the wind and letting them all out of the playpen, at the same time. I put a sheet down on the rug and then play 'herd the kittens' as they take off in 4 different directions. Little Squeaky is a fast little guy. Well, they all are but he is impressive. And it looks like Maggie might be the only 'short hair' in the bunch. Even Squeaky is getting kind of fluffy. And it is shocking to realize that I can already see them changing. For one thing, no more hissing or spitting. Instead I get an occasional kitten kiss. They all are BIG fans of snuggles.
Just before I put them back in the playpen, for the night, I gathered them up on my lap for what is the best I can do for a 'contained' group photo. It was a short success. I'm gonna need a bigger lap.

(269,219 posts)Get some twine and have fun with them, the twine and a ball
Sometimes I cut a tiny part of a branch from a tree and have a blast with them.
They'll be tame in no time - enjoy!

(26,308 posts)Mostly, when they aren't leading me on a merry chase, they love to wrestle. And sleep. They really love to sleep.
I'm taking them to the vet, tomorrow morning, just to have them looked at and see if I'm doing anything wrong, or if there is something more I should be doing.

(24,070 posts)How did you come to be caring for these 4 in addition to your outsiders. Im sure one of your other posts tells the tale, but I missed it.

(26,308 posts)I thought it was Spooky, Sr, who I THOUGHT was male. But now I've seen another black cat wandering around so who knows. I guess that question will be answered when we trap Spooky Sr and have a look under that tail.
Anyway, they looked old enough to rescue so when the opportunity presented itself, I brought them inside. Other cat rescue people told me now that the mother cat has seen that I've seen her and the kits, she'd probably move them. Again. They weren't in the spot where I found them, just the day before. The kittens were already showing very feral attitudes - one in particular hissed and spit whenever she saw me.
So I'm going to take care of them until they are a few weeks older and then it looks like I may have found homes for all of them - one of those homes being mine. I feel horrible about taking that mama cat's babies but I couldn't risk losing track of them and having another 4 fertile ferals hanging around the property.

(26,308 posts)I'm keeping an eye on Skittish because she's not acting the same, lately. She's even been scurrying beneath a whole different set of bushes at the neighbor's house.
