Looking for input regarding seriously bruised foot. (Don't let your computer fall off the desk!)

It's been eight days now since my laptop fell off the desk as I was rearranging things, smacking my shin, foot, ankle.

Holy moly!

The swelling. The deep, colorful bruises all around the foot. The lumps on my shin. The pain.

X-rayed yesterday. No damage to the bones, and the only continued recommendation is ice, elevation.

Any idea how long this could last? It's very painful. Google says 2-4 weeks or more.

Not seeking medical advice. Just comment of similar injury.

take Naproxen or another anti inflammatory, drink some tea & add turmeric, ginger & pepper. Note: Turmeric has great anti inflammatory and healing properties, but the human body does not easily absorb turmeric into the cells. Pepper and ginger increase absorption of turmeric in the body by up to 2,000%. Hope you feel better soon!

Fell down some stairs and my right foot got caught underneath me. It had to be reattached on one side. The surgeon put in a metal plate to hold it together. It's still bruised there and up my shin. Podiatrist said it might not go away entirely, but it's lighter in color than it was.

Arnica gel is usually great for bruises, but it didn't help with the foot and shin.

Good luck - I hope you feel better soon!

Woah...
So sorry to hear this...

I've had serious sprains of my left foot 4+ times over the mid '60's -late '90s.

Then I got a tri-fractured right ankle 2012: when I missed a step, landed hard on my right foot. (then I fell over because there was no banister, thank goodness no injury from that) I had to miss a Springsteen concert is he next day, and crutches (scary!!!) for about 10+ days till a friend found me a better surgeon.
Had to go to a nursing home/ rehab facility post surgery.
So frikkin' weird. Luckily I recovered excellently. 👍

I tend to like the arnica 30C pellets. Didn't have it for that ankle fracture.

BTW - They worked great for heavy dental work!!!

Have you been checked by a doctor for a possible balance problem?

I was diagnosed last year with vestibular neuropathy - some kind of nerve issue in my right inner ear. It makes me trip and fall more often than is normal. It's not that common. I've had it for years and just thought I was a natural klutz. There's not much I can do about it.

There are other things that can cause balance problems like benign positional vertigo, which is what they initially thought I had. This can often be treated with something called the Epley Maneuver.

There are also physical therapy methods to improve balance. I should do this but haven't because of Covid.

The podiatrist I've been seeing for the ankle fracture had me get orthotics and start wearing more supportive sneakers to help prevent future falls.

I use arnica tablets too - they are great for headaches and back pains. But look into the stuff you apply externally. CVS sells liquid arnica in a roller ball container that you roll onto the painful areas. It's not as messy as the gels and creams.

So sorry you had to miss a Springsteen concert. Back in the early 1970s I saw him perform at Rutgers U. before he became well known. Admission was 75 cents!

So sorry to hear you have a tricky balance issue. Scary stuff.

Actually my balance is usually good+ to excellent, unless I'm extra tired then I can be a bit off.

First sprain I was jumping off the he stage for a JHS school play and I landed wrong. Then like ?15 yrs later the side of my foot hit a dip in a subway staircase where the banister was and turned my ankle.

Most of the time it involved my foot landing fairly hard
on an angled surface I wasn't expecting. I had like 3 more
And I can remember having 'weak ankles' when trying to ice skate (vs 4 wheeled skates) even before the first accident.

Anyway a sports medicine doctor taught me a simple exercise when after all these my ankle started to lose some flexibility. Worked like a charm! Taught it to others.

I took Tai Chi (2xs) later on. It really strengthed my ankles. I had only one after that. That was like 15ish yrs ago. 👍

As for Broooooce. I guess I've seen him 15+ times since '76. We heard about him in NYC because the rock station I was mostly listening to had a few DJ fans - so we heard some tracks from the first album onward. 🙂
I got to see them 3x's in a theater, before all the arenas, and stadiums we did later! 🎶🎤🎸🎶😁

I had favorites Vin(!), Meg Griffen(!) (she was on Philly radio at one point), Tom ("the brick" ) Morrera(!) were my three favorites because they championed the CBGB's bands. Dan Neer also did sometimes, too.
I liked the others, too, like Pete, Allison, etc but got mad at them for being so resistant to those great bands.
So I also listened to the short lived radio station - "The Pix".

One time Scott Muni was interviewing Roger Daltrey, and since I had to pick up a graphic design project in the mid town area I went over and met Roger (3 months before he cut his "Tommy" curls). He was nice. I was expecting a whole bunch of fans to be there. There were only ?4 of us. There probably would have been a bigger crowd for Pete. I was happy I got there.

I went to the emergency room and the x-rays showed no breakage but very thin bones. They put me in a boot, which I could not wear all the time and prescribed 3-4 pills of Naproxen. It took about a month to get better---but, six months later I developed a lump on the bottom of my foot that looked like a boil (it was soft) but didn't hurt unless I irritated the lump. Dr. said, don't lance it or cut it out because these things happen after injuries and the lumps often grow back. They gave me some shoe inserts that allowed for the lump and it's better. It's now disappearing after 18 months. Lots of small bones in the feet. I feel for you.

I learned about it 20+ yrs qgo when daughter had dropped a slate science lab table top on her thumb.

Immediately took away all pain. Nail never turned black or fell off.

Makes sense, as I understand the product.

As luck would have it, I inadvertently slammed my fingers in the car door when we returned home.

One spritz & same effect. All pain & throbbing stopped instantly & never returned.

It is not for use on broken skin. Calendula usually works for those.

The shin, the ankle, the foot. The bruising pattern is very weird. All around the foot above the sole. All around the whole damned foot, in a ring. And also on one toe. And then swelling but no bruising on the ankle and on the shin. So I guess different parts of the machine hit different parts of me.

This is the foot that required partial resection (at the area where one might have a bunion) after it became infected with a rare pathogen associated with GOATS two years ago. I had a blister on that area, and stepped in a mud puddle in the park next door, and subsequently it was infected with this staph caprae, associated with goats. After that surgery healed, it became my GOOD foot when my other foot became infected with a different bacteria and cellulitis three months ago.

Now this. LOL. What a pain.

to trouble. I don't want to be alarmist since with an injury like that, the whole area is going to feel crappy. Just keep any eye on things, watch your temperature, drink plenty of liquids (not booze and keep everything clean.

I just realized it does sound like I'm an alcoholic! LOLOL.

Nope. A teetotaler. Don't smoke or eat any substance, either.

Being a diabetic, I'm usually careful about my feet, and I do have a podiatrist who is hyper vigilant for me.

Thank you for your suggestions and concern. I *see* your wonderful son regularly on FB and Twitter, and pictures of your granddaughter, too!

Cheers.

I stopped at a McD's for coffee. An employee was lugging a full-sized Ronald McDonald display toward the dumpster. As an avid collector, I asked if he was throwing it away, and if I could have it. He let me take it. it was made of masonite and steel, and as I put it in my car, I dropped it on my foot. Just a few inches, but my foot bruised and hurt for weeks.

Hope you feel better soon. Be nice to yourself! It takes awhile for your feet to heal after a hit like that.
