Just curious. I have never been there.

I would have to say it's Los Angeles for me. What a soulless place. I felt so disembodied the entire time I was there. Like I had lost touch with reality or something. I pretty much hated everything about it. It's hard to describe exactly why I found it so depressing.

In Chennai people defecate and urinate in public using the gutters and sides of buildings as toilets.

Mumbai is nearly as bad. In the mornings they sweep the previous day’s garbage into piles throughout the city and set them on fire. The smoke lingers in the air for hours.

The poverty is overwhelming and street beggars are everywhere. They don’t hesitate to grab at tourists as they pass by. If one does give something to a beggar they are immediately surrounded by others and fights sometimes break out among them.

It's such an interesting culture and I am sure there is a lot that is beautiful about it too, but that is such a drawback. That would really deter me from visiting.

That, and the way women are treated there. I would never go as a single woman. I would fear for my life.

Sad because I have a great aunt who was mom's BFF and she's 94 and not in great health and lives near Dallas. I might not even know if she passed because I don't see my cousins posts anymore but I'm hoping I'd at least get a text or Instagram msg. I wouldn't want to travel there, but I think they'd also have the service online and I would want to watch, maybe even participate and talk about what an extraordinary friend she was to mom and how very much we loved her for her steadfast kindness and love.

I would never want to visit Kansas again because it was just an awful place to drive through and the state has such awful rw policies, I just see nothing at all attractive about this god-forsaken desolate place. I'm sure there are probably some nice spots, but I sure never saw them, and again, I hate their politics. I also try not to drive through LA, MS or TX because those places are horrible to people driving through and have been harassed at all 3 places. We love NO, but always fly, never drive because of that. At some point we may drive to CA and would have to go through these, but lessons learned, only stop in bigger cities at franchise places - less likely spots for harassment.

I moved from there many years ago. My mother recently moved from there.

I have no reason or desire to go back -- ever.

We now live in South Florida.

Notwithstanding pandemics, politics, Trumper neighbors, and the comments directly above this one, we love it here! Really do.

What a soulless, shallow, dirty, polluted, charmless urban sprawl.

I didn't like anything about it. The entire time I was there I felt completely disembodied, almost like nothing was real and I just felt so "un-grounded". I can't really explain it, but it was a very strange, unsettling feeling. Like I wasn't tethered somehow.

Would love to hear from anyone who felt the same way and could perhaps describe the feeling better than i can.

Was there in 1978, saw a scrawl on a bathroom wall that said "God made Texas with a hangover."

Saying has stuck with me since.

I hated it there, except for a chili festival I went to.
Best chili I ever had, there.

The only reason I ever went back after I left for college was to see my parents. Now that they are gone and their house sold, I intend to never return.
