(12,463 posts)Sex is not the main focus for furmeets.

(46,314 posts)I go for the pin-up type art, myself.
I do have a "feathersona," as opposed to "fursona."
"Archae," an anthro archaeopteryx.
But I don't have any costume, just a lot of good furry artwork.

(12,463 posts)I'm a furry.
Here's my fursona.
This is my leather mask.
Can't afford to make a fursuit. I tend to like realistic style. Just not realistic colors.

(12,463 posts)But a lot of furries I know are not narcissists or histrionic.
I identified as a feline soul long before the web existed. I am 55.
In elementary school
I wore a furry jacket everyday and I wore shirts with cat pictures on them a lot.
When my cousin and I would play together I was a rainbow lion.
In middle school I would wear a furry hood with cat ears.
I also made and wore a cat tail.bought new tails for Halloween.
To this day I wear cat stuff. I have a small collection.
Bullies got in my shit over it in school. But they got in my shit for every damn thing .
I learned very early to tell them to fuck off and if nessesary I could cause them pain in a fight if started.
When I go out catted up , I get compliments people seem to respect the creative and fun aspect of it.
I adore cats. I relate to cats better than people.

(6,261 posts)I have no issues. I like cats.
I_UndergroundPanther
(12,463 posts)I'm not physically a cat. Wish I could be one though. If I could be feline I would jump at the chance so fast you would hear a Sonic boom.

(12,463 posts)Sadly there are anti furry bigots on DU.
Wish they'd try harder to get over it. Same thing with having a lot of tattoos.
Some people got a cob up thier ass about it.

(34,135 posts)Or historic recreationists who recreate anything from Romans, to Middle Age personas, or American Civil War, or any other of the groups that like to dress up in funny costumes and have gatherings with people of like mind.
There are much worse things people could do, like storming the US Capitol to stop the functioning of our government.
I agree with you, the world would be so boring if no one ever got their freak on.
** Note: In my past I was a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism in which the members create personas that could have existed between 500 and 1500 AD. We'd dress up in funny costumes, have mock battles, and grand feasts. The group keeps getting larger and the costumes more elaborate and authentic. I also made a killer Gandalf costume for my husband to wear to DragonCon years ago (my husband's big bragging point is that he was introduced by George Takei!). So I have some sympathy for this sort of role playing concept.
Skittles
(153,141 posts)but none of them are as fucked up as people who cannot get over a war they lost over 150 years ago

Alot of furries have no kink but see themselves as I do.
It's called being Otherkin.

(115,661 posts)Those costumes look awfully hot, though. Maybe the best time and location for a convention would be Reykjavík in January.

(3,974 posts)Not my thing.
I try not to judge. I still own a Star Trek uniform and gratefully, can still fit in it. Halloween, here I come.
