Might be because I can't resist filling in for the kitten's bed.

(26,249 posts)Which translates to work time for me. I give myself a couple of hours and then it's time for their 'mid day snack'.
They are pretty entertaining, today. I might have to cut back on that 2 hour work slot.

(26,249 posts)I've never dealt with kittens this young, or this numerous. Which also means I've never watched their personalities develop. It is quite the experience.
Both my Sophie and Boudicca were rescues from a drug addict/hoarder's home and they were never nurtured, as kittens. Boudicca was about a year old and Sophie around 6 months when they came to live with me. Boudicca was surprisingly affectionate, given that they feared she had turned feral because she tunneled into the piles of trash any time someone came near. For some reason, she trusted me from the start. Sophie took a few hours to warm up to me and now she shows affection in her own, stoic way. I'm determined that these kittens will be about as affectionate and nurtured as humanly possible.

Kittens are great therapy. So are the adults. I found out that my sweetie from my last residence (moved in July) is coming to stay with me for a few months while his human is transitioning to a new house that isn't finished yet but the old one is sold. So my buddy can hang with me, though it's a very different environment, while she's living in her mid-sized RV.
I'm excited, I really miss him, he moved in with me, next door, when his human got a new puppy about a year ago. He's a ranch cat but is indoor/outdoor and when he saw the crate coming out of the car, he went right to my door and demanded to be let in! He was so mad, he wouldn't talk to his mom for two weeks.
So we have spent a winter together at my place, he's totally adopted me and had both his mom and me under his control the whole few years that I was there.
Enjoy the kittens while you can, they'll be grown before you know it.

(2,636 posts)We say, "I can't right now, I'm trapped under a cat."
Litter mate rescues: two year old calico and a ginger boy, and then one of a set of two long haired grays, and a 10 year old former feral fat boy rescue named Earl Gray. Love watching you manage the menagerie. Nothing brings more peace than kittens. However, four cats is over the limit. When the 18 yo goes, I've already got my replacements.
More pics!!!

(26,249 posts)I'm going to give myself a short intermission, spend some time with Sophie, and they I shall indulge in more kitten antics.
Sophie is getting a little better with them. I kept the kittens separated from her for the first couple of weeks but she now has run of the house. I keep an eye on things when she's around. Since she's going to be living with one, and possibly two of them, it seems important for her to get accustomed to their presence.
I turned around to see her nose to nose with Madoc, yesterday. No hissing, no snarling - just eye contact. That gives me a lot of hope.

(3,055 posts)As a cat parent for years, I can attest that there is NO more important task than keeping your kittehs happy. And, of course, they expect no less. You SO rock for taking them in. Any luck with the mama?

(26,249 posts)If she hasn't been by, it isn't unusual, yet. Another neighbor also has a feeding station set up for the ferals.
I'm going to make a point of looking more often to see if I spot her.
