He is hunkered down with his partner and one other roommate who have all tested positive. Everyone in the apt has been fully vaccinated and is so careful about masking, distancing, etc. Yesterday, my son had zero symptoms., but when I talked to them on the other side of their closed front door today while dropping off groceries I didn't like the way he sounded. He finally admitted he had some chest tightness. Now I'm a nervous wreck. I didn't let him know, of course; I took it casually and told him to drink loads to help break up mucus and to call me if he got worse. But I'm a nervous, anxious person and I am actually beside myself.
Update: He is feeling back to 100% today. Whew.

(12,206 posts)Early symptoms...time to get Regeneron monoclonal antibodies...IV infusion....Agree...the pulse ox is like say $40 at the Pharmacy...worthy investment..... You want oxygen level 90% to 100 %...

(20,043 posts)A coworker's daughter, who is 24 weeks pregnant and unvaxxed, started having some early COVID-19 symptoms and went to the doc-in-a-box "just to make sure" it wasn't COVID-19. Turns out it was and they gave her Regeneron. She has an oximeter and hasn't had to go to the ER.

(23,238 posts)And, agree with other posters that giving him a pulse oximeter would be peace of mind for you and for your son.

(16,354 posts)Good idea about the infusion! I'm going to text him now.

(143,998 posts)Monoclonal antibodies are amazing. If I test positive or have a breakthrough, I will be getting monoclonal antibodies

(16,354 posts)I think he's more amenable to it now. I just got back from taking a new pulse ox over there, hung it on their door. He texted me to give me their readings (both kids are still fine) and said he'd see about the remdesivir tomorrow. Each kid is worried more about the other. I guess that's love, though.

(22,417 posts)I have a good phrase that helps me, action conquers fear. But it sounds like you already have a good action plan. The only things that come to mind with me are
1) closely monitoring any temperature
2) have an pulse oximeter handy and
3) get and start using an incentive spirometer which you can order from Amazon for between $10-$20
I'm keeping you and yours in my thoughts and hopefully all will be well for them all. Stay encouraged.

(16,354 posts)He now has a new pulse ox. They don't have a spirometer, although I have one I can sanitize and give him. My son promised me he will let me know immediately if one of them deteriorate. I only live about five miles from him.

(258 posts)I just got off the phone with my younger son. I thought he and his wife were vacationing in Juneau. it turns out he has been sick for several days and is waiting for his COVID test results. He and his wife are both vaccinated. My other son has breakthrough COVID. His wife is not vaccinated and went to Arizona for a bachelorette party. She tested negative on her rapid test last Monday and the more thorough test came back positive on Wednesday. Their baby also has been sick. This has been a tough week, so I know how scary it is. My youngest niece also had breakthrough COVID. She felt like she had a bad cold. My sons both do not feel well, but I expect that they will be fine. Thank goodness they are both vaccinated.

(16,354 posts)You know what all these breakthrough cases are telling me? That if you have exposure to delta, you're probably going to get it. You might not know you have it but it's going to pass through.

Another thing I've heard is to drink lots of water...to keep things moist. And to breathe in steam. Don't know if these things actually help but certainly can't hurt

(37,573 posts)the odds of a young person surviving are very good.
59 year old me survived and so did my 58 year old SIL's parents.
I treated it like a cold, plus with sunlight and zinc.
