1. We got a pittie

in our shelter who'd been seized from his previous owner by the law. The owner had poured some kind of caustic chemical on him so he had places on his neck and back where the hair never grew back. But he was the sweetest, most loving boy---a little shy at first, then when he realized you were there for treats and pets and walks and playtime he was all there for you. He got adopted in just a couple of weeks despite his scars and when last heard from at the alumni picnic he was a happy, playful boy who seemed to have forgotten his painful past. As Cesar says, dogs live in the present.
