(33,643 posts)based on the overall vibe of the questions ... Woodstock.
Though Misty Mountain Hop would be more logical as a song on that album.

(33,643 posts)Between October 26, 2002 and March 1, 2003 *** was in the number one spot on the Billboard Modern Rock Charts for 17 of 18 successive weeks, as a member of three different groups.
One was a long-unreleased song from a previous, defunct band the artist was in, which still went to #1 (on Modern Rock chart) when it finally came out. The other two were current songs from 2 bands the artist was in at the time.
Hints:
Both these bands still exist, though the artist is only in one of them now.
This artist sings on one of the 3 songs, and plays an instrument on the other two (and it's the same instrument).
Who is ***, and bonus question, what were the 3 different groups?

(50,533 posts)Number 4 was they had to be the last act on stage.
Number 5 was a black dog that kept hanging out around the studio they were recording in.

(27,783 posts)You got #1 and #5
(#4 was already answered correctly..they insisted that the Plastic Ono Band play too)

(36,389 posts)The Rolling Stones didn't play, but I have no clue if they were scheduled to play.
Bob Dylan didn't play, and I don't know if he was scheduled, but he attended with, get this, Tiny Tim as his guest.

(36,389 posts)Believe it or not, The Band backed Tiny Tim for a Down in the Basement recording session
Hope your ears don't bleed
Dylan did live in Woodstock, but The Band held court in the Big Pink, a whopping eight miles away

(27,783 posts)I wasn't too crazy about "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" but there were other songs on that album that I loved....
eg, "The Ice Caps Are Melting" (This was the 1960's, he was ahead of his time with that song)
Back in the 1990's, I was listening to "The Don & Mike" radio show one day, and Tiny Tim called in from Laughlin, Nevada (where he was performing)
They fooled around with him pretty good, but he was very polite with them.
[Don asked him whether or not he was wearing "Depends"]

(27,783 posts)Dylan "was never in serious negotiation to appear at Woodstock" because he was planning on leaving for England on the Queen Elizabeth 2 on August 15, (the 1st day of the festival). to play at the "Isle of Wight Festival of Music" on August 31.
However,
"his son was injured by a cabin door (on the QE2) and the family disembarked.
Dylan and his wife Sara flew to England the following week."
So, I guess Dylan was at home in Woodstock at the time after all; and I guess Tiny Tim was there too
(Perhaps Tiny Tim was supposed to be house-sitting for Dylan while he was away in England?)

(50,533 posts)Two hints:
1) This is Bruce Dickinson the singer, not the one in the SNL skit
2) He wasnt a singer originally.
