Gross Costco fish pizza.

The husband and I went to Costco today (in Japan). There were three pizza selections: pork, cheese, and one with cute little mozzarella balls, tomatoes and olives. I chose the latter. It wasn't until I served it that we noticed that what appeared to be cheese wasn't. It was teeny tiny white fish, whitebait or abortion sardines or whatever they are. I usually put them on the husband's tofu.

Disgusting! Fishy, salty, soft. Anchovies are different, I respect anchovies.

It's a big Costco-sized pizza. Who thought of this? Why? I'm going to have to pick those little fish off the whole pizza.

In the end, though, I'm to blame. I should know to carefully read labels. Just yesterday I bought what I thought was cheese French bread but wasn't, was French bread mentaiko, cod roe, which I love but not on bread. Mentaiko pasta is fabulous.

Pizza. At least you tried it, that’s the fun part of exploring a different culture.

To declare it “bad”. They must think it’s good. I don’t know if your are familiar with the phrase “ugly American”. After WW II, Some Americans who stated traveling abroad would visit other countries and complain about local food and customs because they were unfamiliar and not like at home.

My husband's Japanese. He was disgusted. But of course you know best. I've lived in Japan for decades. "They"? WTF. This is why I rarely post OPs.

New, unexpected ways. Fusion food. Sushi pizza, kimchi burritos. Bacon donuts, Mexican ramen, Indian nachos. I don’t love all it, but I applaud it and find it fun. Once upon a time spaghetti and meatballs weren’t a thing either. Now it’s a classic.

I'm like a ninety-five-year-old sushi chef who refuses to make a California roll? Japan is known for its unique culinary inventions, some of the best chefs in the world. What are you even talking about?

We criticize food all the time. It's not like she's shouting it out to the neighborhood. And fish on pizza? Come on!

Duh. Picked them off and the husband ate them with their natural pairing, tofu.

I thought octopus pizza was popular in Korea and Japan. Lots of Google hits but couldn't find the favorite pic I had in mind.

14. It used to be corn and mayonnaise pizzas that freaked out foreigners the most.

Not so popular any more. My personal favorite was shrimp/crab gratin pizza, but that doesn't seem to be popular anymore either.

Japan McDonald's has Moon Viewing burgers now -- Tsukimi -- with eggs on them to represent the moon. As far as I'm concerned, eggs have nothing to do with hamburgers. Don't know why anyone would put an egg on burgers. Guess that makes me a terrible person.
