There is no need to unplug it. That is, if you have a laptop on and your browser open, then maybe you would want to. and the only reason to do that is if you are downloading a large file and then you need it plugged in.

When I'm home, internet continuity is extremely important. We have ours on its own battery backup to smoothly ride out power hits.

But we have disconnected the modem in the past if we were going to be gone. I haven't been gone much the last 19 months

Being self employed, sometimes I need to remote in to my computer when I’m away

I do turn off the monitors and mouse

They all eat electricity so off they go, but actually it comes from back in the days when lightening could hit a building or pole and knock out the TV's, ruining them. We now have underground lines but I still do it.
