I love the commercial with the two females sword fighting in ancient Rome and one offering a remedy

for a sore muscle and the other saying "Thank the gawds!"

Her opponent says "Don't thank them too soon!" and lifts her sword again.

I know it's fancy but I do like it, unlike most commercials which bore me.

1. Do your recall who the ad was for? (This is a quiz).

I worked in advertising and marketing for years and I can’t help studying ads when they come on. I’m always analyzing who is the target, what’s, the strategy and what’s the main message? The problem with highly entraining ads is that sometimes viewers can’t remember or identify the advertiser. (low brand linkage). It’s really and art and a science.

(FYI This ad was for Amazon Prime and I imagine the target is women 25-40. The messaging strategies is to tap into the heroic aspiration of consumers when they “score”. This is probably more than you ask for, but I can’t help myself. I love adverting. Would you like to hear my take on the Applebee’s campaign? It is brilliant!

3. They don't think you're stupid, you just may not be in the target audience.

You could not even imagine the amount of money and time that goes into devolving and testing advertising. It starts with developing “insights” insights and goes from there. Focus groups, ongoing tracking (similar to political polling), ad testing. The industry has its own awards, the CLEOs.By the time big ad campaigns air, they have been thoroughly tested with the target audience. They wouldn’t waste money airing a campaign that doesn’t meet prescribed action standards usually for persuasion, likeabily, and main message playback.

5. There are a lot of irritating, "stupid" ads,but they're that way for a reason. For example, insuranc

Ads are often offbeat and wacky because insurance is a very low involvement category with little perceived product differentiation. They annoying ads are intended to break though and give the brand a certain brand personality - competent, caring, fun, energetic, etc. the creative team at the ad agency is tasked with coming up with ideas that fit the strategy. More of the ideas are rejected before they are shot. The ad devolvement process takes 3-12 months if a lot of foundational research is involved.

The joke goes, if man is truly made in God's image, then God has one hell of a backache.
