katy tur was a tough interviewer. even then fox news was trash. the fingers were all pointing at bin laden already. the prominent speculation was about how many died in the twin towers (estimates up to tens of thousands).
tur interviewed colin powell who was already wafflling.
andrea mitchell reported from the state department that her sources said it was already known that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11
also watched the bbc where people were reasonable, being far away. their anti terror guys were spot on how the attacks were carried out and one guy predicted the building collapse as being inevitable. US domestic airport security was described as weak compared to that in Europe because Americans did not want to be inconvenienced wit that sort of thing.

(15,751 posts)I had access to a financial news channel that broadcast from the NJ side of the GW Bridge, with the twin towers clearly in sight for the reporters.
As I recall the news people reported to seeing an odd hole in the windows of one building. There was immediate speculation that a small plane had crashed into it. With the second 'hole' they escalated their concern.

because the stocks had caught my attention. They mentioned that a small plane hit the WTC, which I thought sounded strange because of the clear sky and the altitude. I switched to CBS (dont know why) and saw the second plane hit in real time. I will never forget it, ever.
That whole day was just scary and surreal. Late that afternoon there was a sonic boom over my city for the first time in decades. The news had to come on and debunk a rumor that a plane had flown into the VA hospital, thats how on edge people were here, hundreds of miles away.
Just an awful day.

(33,643 posts)The only previous time was in 1980 when I had my tonsils out.
I had shoulder surgery the night before and was in a TON of pain ... so I watched it from my bed, absolutely incredulous and crying intermittently from pain and horror.
