The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsThis was once my den - a place of peace, quiet and solitude. Until the kittens arrived
Now it's a minefield of kitten toys - plastic pumpkins, wine corks, bottle tops, milk bottle rings, toilet roll cardboard, even microfiber cloths. They LOVE baskets and boxes. Every night I gather everything up, and every morning I dump it all back out, again. And I don't mind, one single bit.

(24,560 posts)I'm glad you don't hurt their feelings by complaining.

(26,260 posts)They have certainly re-set the vibes in this house. After so much loss, over the past 6 years, this new life is such a breath of fresh air and worth every second of effort.

(112,136 posts)and for multiple times are the collapsible mesh laundry totes. My cat goes bonkers whenever I reach inside the tote and start folding my laundry.

(35,658 posts)I'm takin' that tip!
I laughed so hard when I read this post and I needed it, too, after partially viewing a 9/11 thread. Then just seeing the demonic look in their eyes as they played made me laugh some more.
These kittens are the greatest stress reliever ever!!

(26,260 posts)Right now it's semi-disguising the hideous shag carpeting that needs to be pulled. Hopefully soon. There's a beautiful, practically untouched maple or oak (not sure) flooring beneath the carpet, and that's throughout the house.
I'm trying to work out the logistics of what to do with the furniture while the wood floor is sanded and stained/sealed.
EYESORE 9001
(25,932 posts)I prefer wooden floors to carpet.
Siwsan
(26,260 posts)MUCH easier to keep the dust down. Especially because this carpet is so old, the padding is drying out.
Bob_in_VA
(88 posts)is it provides kittens with the ability to start running on the floor and then stop, which makes them slide, often into things. Which for some reason they seemed to enjoy doing.

(21,433 posts)When I toss one of my cat's toys into the kitchen for her to chase, she races after it and slides into it on the tile. It looks like a Bugs Bunny cartoon the way she moves her paws trying to stop and then slides up against the door like a home run hitter going into home base.

(13,494 posts)will the cats throw up. Why is it every cat I have ever had prefers to throw up on the carpet and not the wood floor

(34,136 posts)Before we put it into this house I had it cleaned. They brought it (and some other rugs) back and put it down in the living room. Within two days the cats had thrown up on that rug four times. They had never thrown up in the house before but decided that that rug was the perfect place to do so.
Now they throw up on other rugs every so often, but that rug is their favorite one to barf on. Maybe it's the wool?

(13,494 posts)Only once though a long time ago
Why do you clean it up at night if you are going to put it back out in the morning? The only time it's clean is when everybody is asleep.

(26,260 posts)I'm doing my best to keep the dust and pet hair situation under control.

(26,260 posts)Since it's going to rain, tomorrow, I can't put off mowing the back lot, any longer. I'll sequester them and let Sophie have a kitten free run of the house, for a while. She's doing OK with them but still doesn't want them getting too close.

(86,569 posts)A stage that goes on for months. You can hear them galumpfing about as they slide into things while chasing each other and then run off to another disaster. It's so much fun!
Siwsan
(26,260 posts)Squeaky finally developed that skill but when things get too rough, he still runs to me for some comforting scritches.

(26,260 posts)Squeaky is in a 'balcony seat', higher up my shirt while Morgan and Madoc battle it out. Gwen? Napping on another chair.
I really need to put gas in the mower, but I'm pinned to the chair, both by kittens and by the pure enjoyment of watching them.

(16,942 posts)I tied a long sturdy string to the knob, so it dangled close to the floor, but not touching, and attached a kitten toy to it. They loved it. Center of my living room More fun that tv lol

(26,260 posts)I'll dig it out, after I mow. That's my only planned chore, for today. This is my last week with all of the kittens and I plan to make the most of it.

Theyre little dervishes, for sure. 🥰
