Our seniormost kitty has been adopted!

The post on the senior dog reminded me that I forgot to tell y'all that our most senior cat was adopted last week. Grace was a lovely orange lady who did not look her 16 years at all. She came to us with instructions to "put her down", which often happens, but because of her backstory the medical team elected to look further. It seems her former humans had taken her to the vet because she was peeing in places other than her litter box and they wanted him to put her down. He suspected she likely had a UTI and told them that in that case she could be treated. They refused to hear it and just brought her to us instead with the same instructions. Fortunately she was tested, and whaddya know...UTI! So she stayed with us in the jail while that was treated and we babied her as much as she would allow, which wasn't much; she's a reserved sort of lady and wasn't happy besides. Then she went to adoptables, where she did a little better, but it takes the seniors a little longer, but last week just the right person came along and they clicked, and Grace went home at last.

Now to get Bootsie adopted. But that's another story for another day.

grooming her. She's still jumping up on her perch and at 16 I hope will be with me for a while to come. She and her brother put up such a cacophony tonight that when I made myself tuna salad I had to open a can for them (and rinse the flaked tuna with water to get off some of the salt). But yeah. I would not want my younger one to be alone so a senior cat it will be when the day comes. It is stories like your's that have inspired me. Keep telling them.

16 years is a wonderful age for a cat. We've had many cats live to 18+ - it is all about how well they have been treated in their lives. And from my experience cats are like fine wine and cheese - they get better as they age. The love they give is amazing; the relationship much deeper. And you are right - they know they are royalty at that age - but they are and deserve it.
