Eleanor Roosevelts home, Val Kill at Hyde Park, NY was a cottage that she and FDR built several years into their marriage. Up until that point, they had lived in his childhood home with his mother. Eleanor lived in the cottage after FDRs death.

(4,214 posts)Hyde Park is a wonderful and worthwhile place to visit. We enjoyed the Vanderbilt house (which accepted my husbands National Park Service pass as payment for the entrance fee) and the Roosevelt home. However, the highlight was Val Kill. Its a cozy, welcoming cottage but reaches a new level when you understand the world leaders who visited Eleanor there. Our guide told us JFK and Churchill and others walked the same hallway where we stood. Its a beautiful location, to top it off. A great memory to start the day.
