I'll wait for home viewing but IMO this will be a must see.

(26,262 posts)I wish this trailer showed more of the dancing. The choreography in the original is absolutely spectacular.

(7,911 posts)But I don't know. It looks like it might be hard to hate. We'll see, I guess.

(47,040 posts)I usually don't like remakes of a film, the original is always the best.
But this doesn't look too bad.

(1,602 posts)This could go either way - it will either be spectacular or a spectacular flop, but I don't see it not being exceptional.

But I look forward to seeing it anyway.

(9,729 posts)the original "West Side Story" is as close to perfect as it's possible to get. Maybe I'll watch the new one on TV several years from now. Rita Moreno and George Chakiris both won Oscars for their roles in the original, and they're still alive. So are Russ Tamblyn and Richard Beymer, not to mention Stephen Sondheim. I'm sorry, but to me it's just the same as remaking "Casablanca" or "To Kill a Mockingbird."

(458 posts)What I saw of the trailer is a poor remake and somehow is too hollywoodish and it will never compare to the original.

(4,935 posts)but I don't think it will hold a candle to the original....a remake rarely lives up to the original. They didn't include much of the singing parts in this trailer but from what I could tell Maria is lip-sycning again just like Natalie Wood in the original...so I guess that is the same...too bad they couldn't get Marnie Nixon to do it again.

(4,935 posts)Couldn't really tell in the trailer...but she could still be lip syncing to her own recording.

(28,256 posts)Looks like Spielberg has done justice to an American classic. Overjoyed to see Rita Moreno in the cast---as she was in the original...
