Clash City Rocker
(3,390 posts)Which is good, because so far, the odd numbered ones have been good and the even numbered ones, not so much.

(9,895 posts)The motorcycle chase...with his son? (forced coincidence)
The surviving a nuclear test blast...in a fridge?
The flesh eating ants...that consume a man in seconds?
The whole ET plotline...that came out of nowhere?
John Hurt's character?
I heard that they were going to make a 5th movie and immediately thought two things: first - "my god, stop them..." and second - "how fucking broke does Harrison Ford have to be to keep redoing characters from the 80's? Han Solo? check - twice. Indiana Jones? check - apparently twice also. Decker from Blade Runner? check...
Damn - where did those 40 years go? I still to this day remember sitting in the theater with my dad and brother to see Raiders of the Lost Ark for the first time...we were so excited and we had no idea what the movie was about! My brother and I sat there and debated whether it would be more like Flash Gordon or Buck Rogers - because our frame of reference was simply Harrison Ford = Han Solo! I can't believe that was 40 years ago...

(33,643 posts)I think he has maybe 10 mins of screen-time, it's not like he's the leading man in it.
I very very seriously doubt Harrison Ford is even remotely broke.

The restaurant business is a lot of fun if you have good coworkers.

(8,279 posts)It is in fact the least memorable movie
El Supremo
(20,365 posts)Because of the woman screaming all through it.
Best: Last Crusade. Because of the scenes filmed in Arches National Park and on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad.
#2: Lost Arc
#3: Crystal Skull
Have you seen The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles? They are all pretty good.

(34,131 posts)And simply will never watch it again.
I agree with your ranking. And yes, the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles were pretty good. I wouldn't mind seeing them again. the series is supposed to be on Paramount and PrimeTV streaming.

(25,380 posts)Temple of Doom was bad because the annoying kid and too much screaming.
Best to worst:
Last Crusade
Raiders
Temple of Doom
Crystal Skull

(21,346 posts)It lacked the humor and interest level of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade. There didn't seem to be a "connection" or "clicking" between Indy and the leading lady as in the other films. The plot did not hold interest throughout the film.
Crystal Skull was passable but disappointing. The humor and connection between Indy and Marion was there, but not as good as in the Lost Ark. The Crystal Skull as an object to pursue was a let down, lacked the mystery and mythology of the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail.
Lost Ark and Last Crusade are the best and equal in my mind. Can't say that one is better than the other.
My favorite thing about watching the Indiana Jones films is the facial expressions that Ford pulls off, especially the gleam in his eye when he takes out a pursuer. He is a master at facial expressiveness.

(4,588 posts)I voted for Temple of Doom as my least favorite. The annoying, screaming, weak love interest, the gross out factor with the dinner scene and all the heart snatching, and a completely unbelievable/outlandish story line (yeah, I know. lol! But it is the least believable, imho).
How the debate started is we were talking about how great 80s action/adventure movies used to be and how no one makes them anymore. Its all superhero stuff now.
My friend and I want to see a wave of new movies like Romancing the Stone and Jewel of the Nile, Indiana Jones, Goonies, The Princess Bride, Willow, heck- even the National Treasure movies.
I was trying to convince him to watch Crystal Skull again. He saw it once and hated it. The first time I saw it, I hated it.
Then, last year during lockdown, I streamed all four Indy movies in a row. Crystal Skull was much more enjoyable the second time. Maybe because my expectations were super low after the first experience?
Overall, it was a fun watch. The motorcycle chase scene was great. The warehouse scene was cool. Seeing Marion and Indy together was satisfying, especially because the actors have both aged naturally with no or minimal plastic surgery (as far as i can tell). I liked the aliens, dammit!
He has decided to give it another try.
Weve enjoyed checking on the poll numbers and reading the responses.
Thanks again, yall!
Edit: I forgot! My rankings are: 1,3,4,2. His are 1/3 tie, 2, 4.
Edit 2: Also forgot: Today, when we checked the poll numbers, he said, Oooh, whooping your ass like a failed California recall.
