Is it important because the passengers were not trained astronauts or for some other reason? I know that some of the space craft is re-usable and that's a good thing. I know that Space-X had gone to the international space station, and that's a good thing. I believe in the utility of the research that they conduct in space and of learning more about our universe. But what about this particular instance is an important step compared to those already taken over the years?

I have been told that this is the next step toward making space travel possible for everyone but color me skeptical, I don't buy it. I think this "democratizing" of space is a bit of public relations to cover for the fact that most of our civilian space travelers will be ultra-wealthy people looking for ways to spend a small part of their excessive wealth.

The world around us constantly changes and scientists are constantly learning new things and continue to offer new suggestions.

After all, why continue to trail physicists since Newton's laws have are still around us?

I appreciate the gaining knowledge aspect. I am concerned that this knowledge may not be shared broadly but will instead be kept proprietary by the companies that are running these private space shuttle services.
