3. In 1988 I went sailing off San Diego with a couple of friends. I was in town for a block job.

There was a race that day between Ted Turner and Conners. Each guy had a crew of NFL players who
were there for the Super Bowl. We watched the race for a bit and then sailed south toward the Mexican border.
We spotted a group of whales rising and diving. They would rise a couple of minutes after diving, so Steve,
the owner of the sailboat, tried to get close to where he thought they would rise again. One came up very
close to the boat and hanging on to one of the stays, I leaned way out and was almost able to touch it.
Very exciting experience.

4. I'll never forget being on a 56' Ketch just outside Penobscot Bay in Maine, 30 years ago.

A whale breeched and swam alongside of the boat for about 10 minutes. He was almost the length of the sailboat. Seemed close enough that you could reach out and touch it. Blew my mind...
