(102,225 posts)I'm not a big pie person so most of my memories of good pumpkin pie date back to my grandmother's home-baked in childhood. While these commercial pies certainly have to be affected by frozen storage, are they really good?
On edit, I was curious. I googled and found that Sarah Lee's pie contains high fructose corn syrup and Marie Callendar's does not (sugar and natural ingredients only).
So, if it were me, Marie Callendar's it would be.

This year's Costco pie seems to me to have an increased velvet texture. So good. And, still under $6 per pie.

(34,195 posts)Yes, they are two brands of frozen pies, and need to be baked/cooked -- not just warmed up.
Libby's® Famous Pumpkin Pie recipe made from a major brand of canned pumpkin (Libby's) calls for about 60 minutes of baking.

pretty damn good.
The pumpkin pie filing recipe that I like the best is from a 1987 Cooks magazine (which I still have!) recommends adding 2 tablespoon of rum to the filling. I add 4. The alcohol bakes off, but leaves a subtle additional flavor to all the spices that is quite delicious. Sometimes we dont bother with a crust, and call the result pumpkin pudding. Quite delectable.
