I hate to unload on you people, but something is keeping me awake.

It's not Covid.

It's not anti-maskers or anti-vaxxers.

It's not the realization that our democracy is fragile.

It's not thinking about all of the harm TFG has done.

It's...

Just how fucking stoned do you have to be to come up with the thought, the seed, the concept...and then following through and pitching that concept to TV executives and convincing them that the premises behind the TV shows "The Flying Nun" and "My Mother the Car" will do reasonably well?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the shows at all, I'm talking about the concept of the shows. You can't come up with stuff like that without drugs.

I'm not sure if they had bongs back then, but I can picture a bunch of men and women sitting around a table doing bong rips and trying to come up with ideas for a new TV show.

"How about a nun that fucking flies around and shit"?

Those younger than me will have no idea what I'm talking about.

Both are free, no sign up required to watch (if I remember correctly), but they both show ads.

Whether or not those are options for you depends on what devices you use to stream (and if you are willing to watch some commercials).

If you're actually wondering, it seems that Bewitched was inspired by a couple of movies, "I Married a Witch" and "Bell Book and Candle". Well, at least if you are to believe the trivia section of IMDB on "I Married a Witch" :

Sol Saks, creator of Bewitched (1964), stated in an interview for E! True Hollywood Story: Bewitched (1999) that he drew inspiration both from this film and Bell Book and Candle (1958) in creating the iconic TV series. Columbia Pictures owned the rights to both of those movies. Since it also owned the television studio that was to produce "Bewitched," Saks didn't worry about getting sued.

Not only was the TV show Bewitched (1964) influenced by this film, but Eily Malyon (who played Fredric March's mother in the opening witch-burning scene) played a character named Tabitha, which was the daughter's name on the TV show.

Currently available for streaming from TCM. Not the best of films, but Veronica Lake was certainly cute!

My brother once pointed that out while we were in a haze, though Sgt. Friday seemed more like a scotch guy to me. Probably a mean drunk too. Bill Gannon, on the other hand, stoner all the way.

The Fifteenth Pelican by Tere Rios, published in 1965, was the basis for the TV ries, The Flying Nun.

Not gonna speculate on whether drugs were involved in the creation of the book or the decision to turn it into a TV show!

...no less a personage than St Joseph of Copertino, a rather dull-witted young man who, apparently when he got into a state of religious ecstasy, would fly around his monastery like a chirping bird. There is all sorts of documentation of him doing this, though I remain personally a wee bit, how should I put it, skeptical...? In any event, the memory of him might have influenced The Flying Nun...

Nearly every time I get in my car to drive. The first thing my car does is tell me to drive safely and follow the rules of the road. Next, it freaks out when I’m three feet from anything. When I try to use voice commands, it completely misunderstands more than half of what I say. It seems familiar.

Mom, is that you?
