If i don't use the grill for a week they move in and make a nest along with all the urine and droppings.
I live in the Dallas / Ft Worth area.
Does anybody have suggestions on how to discourage them?

(17,002 posts)Spray with peppermint oil as they hate the smell. Will need to reapply regularly to keep them away.

(180 posts)That will scare then away. I have used it at my camp.
Look in a a hardware or gardener supply store.
Sprinkle some on some foil when not using the grill.
It is based on predator urine. Quite safe and effective.

(23,307 posts)try to build a nest in the cabinet below my grill. I put a peanut butter laden trap and BAM! Got him on day one. My other tried and true trick is to take a box (bigger than a shoe box but not anything huge)..cut a couple mouse size holes in the box...put peanut butter baited mouse traps inside the box at varying angles...close the top of the box so that it's nice and dark inside and gently place it in the vicinity of where you know there are mice. I say gently because you don't want your mouse traps all sliding around together. I will also smear a glob of peanut butter inside the box higher than a mouse can reach just to make sure they smell it.
I have never not caught mice with this method. I have chickens and have to be careful with traps so that my girls don't get hurt. Keeping the traps enclosed in a cardboard box totally keeps chickens and other non-target critters safe. You can get mouse traps now that you don't have to touch the mice at all and can reuse the traps.

(7,595 posts)Irish Spring bar soap can be cut into smaller square pieces and placed in the garden as well. It repels all kinds of mammals, although it doesn't repel insects.

Steel wool is also suppose to help keep the mice away.

(6,513 posts)I put some under my car hood...they liked it very much.
I bought some fancy rose-scented soap bars for my bathroom, and they ate all the edges off, just made scallops with their teeth. I just said, "What happened here?" They love soap. They probably shower with the stuff when I am not looking.
