(21,714 posts)That was bypass surgery, it took a lot out of me. Had the surgery just before Covid hit, so being on lockdown hasn't helped either. Ugh, I hate getting old!

(268,885 posts)because it is either get old or die, so I work hard to stay fit and well. And yes I know that too will be a struggle one of these days. Hope you're healing well.

(21,714 posts)The surgery was a complete surprise, went in for a test and boom, the next day was having the surgery. Covid set me back a bit, didn't have a chance to recover before it hit, and like most, I've been lazy since it did hit.

My dad's youngest sister died at 97, but she didn't even know she was alive.
Her best friend died the year after at 98 - she was lucid but could barely move a muscle.

So basically he was inside his own head all day and night. He said its very lonely.
I was lucky because he could still hear me on the phone. So I called him everyday.

(34,135 posts)His mother had severe COPD but a sharp mind, mine had dementia but a body in pretty good shape. We'd joke that if we could combine them, we'd have an old lady that would live forever. Unfortunately, they are both gone, but by the time they each went, it was a blessing since life was a burden to them at the end.
