My wonderful nail/facial/wax salon closed very suddenly!

Just one day last month. I thought their little parking lot looked weird, so empty. But their window shades were up. Alas, the door was locked!

There was no announcement ahead of time, at least not to me.

This was a nice place. I knew so many of the women there, who shuttled in a van with the owner, who is part of the Korean community in Queens, NY. He brought in staff members, young Hispanic and some South Korean ladies. We often chatted about how their children were doing. I always tipped them generously. My husband always stopped there for my Christmas Gift Certificate so they knew him, too.

There are many other salons in the area but it's not the same.

That's not to say this one was, but its sudden closing is a bit suspicious - though financial troubles are also a possible reason. Some info about trafficking and nail salons: https://freeforlifeintl.org/2020/07/31/trafficking-spotlight-health-beauty-salons/ and https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nail-salons-and-human-tra_b_669076

owner took over.

At one time, New Haven's mayor would go there to have her nails done. She lived in my neighborhood so I would chat with her.

When I was an ESOL tutor, they asked me to hold a little class there, which I did. I remember one student asking about our American saying "Holy shit." She couldn't understand how something could be holy and be shit. I couldn't answer her question!
