Back about forty years, the neighbors dog in the apartment across from me would do this. We would see this dog downtown several miles from home. At first, thought he was there with the neighbor teenage sons. Later saw that the dog was riding the bus on his own.

I'm fairly sure even back then that dogs were not allowed on the buses, but there he was. The boys and their dog were well known around town in Chapel Hill and no one seemed to mind.
