Ghost Stories

martyargyle @martyargyle1
Sitting in my living room and saw someone out of the corner of my eye in the kitchen. I would think it was just mind eye games except the dog sat up and stared, too. There was no one there. Ever have this happen?

I'm too tired to go into all the details but I'll check back on this post when I'm more awake and tell you about some of my experiences.

#1. My mom passed in March 2013. Services done over the weekend. Won't go into the grieving stuff etc ... Anyway by Monday night ... I was back in the house where I took care of mi mama for the last few years of her life. I was lying in bed with my doggie Smegal, and I was lying on my left side looking out the sliding glass door to the front yard. A "Shadow" passed between the street post light on the front yard and the house. It walked up the stairs to the front door. My doggie Smegal (Jack Russel) noticed it too and growled. I was holding him at eye level and his head and ears went up. His head turned and followed this shadow to the front door as he was growling. Neither one of us jumped out of bed. I laid their like WTF? Was even creepier when Smegal didn't actually jump up like he always did when anyone approached the house. Think he was confused too ... ? After about 30 seconds of silence I got up ... went to the front door, went outside. No one ... anywhere ...

I told this to my cousin a few days later ... she said my mama came home.

Note: on New Years Eve 2013 the same year mi mama passed I came home alone again (sigh ha) after being out that night. Turned on the TV about to watch some midnight fireworks. I sat back on the couch and was contemplating the year and of course my mind was on my mom who had passed that year. The clock stuck twelve and the calendar fell off the wall as I was thinking about mi mama. Last goodbyes? Who knows.

I moved in. Told him his wife had moved and he needed to leave and he did. I described him to one of my neighbors and he said he (the ghost) was the old man who died in the house.

He stared at a wall and said, What's THAT?" I saw nothing, but a minute later he again demanded, "What's THAT?"

To this day I have no idea if he saw something I didn't see or if he was just messing with me.

If nothing else thank's bigtree for letting me document these on DU. Never had been, and still will never be occupied by the unknown, occult, whatever ... more of a 'science' guy ... ha ... and down to earth etc... and 'Politics' but here is my second real life ghost story ... I only have 2. And I am 63 years old now...

Back in the day I lived in San Diego CA for 18 years and only came up to visit my folks (Inland Empire, San Berdo CA) on the Holidays and special occasions about 120 miles away from where I was at the time. Mi mama and papa had this thing they always brought up about this 'ghost' that lived in the house (A different house from my first Ghost story upthread). They named him 'George' ... and I was like yeah right and just played along. It was fun !!! For years the rest of the family would ask 'How's George?' And we would always be amused by the antics my folks would tell us. They accepted that 'George' wasn't a threat over time, just some Ghost hanging out right. So anyway years went by ... and one time I came to visit ...

Okay at this point it must be said that in California almost NO ONE gets to 'just gets to know their nieghbors' it just doesn't happen. If you've lived in Cali you know what I am talking about. We keep to ourselves. Anyway ... I came by to visit sometime after this 'George Ghost' living in the house thing was just like just another relative to hear about on the holidays.

So ... I was helping my mom and dad out back with something (after the holiday) when something went "BOOM" next door over the fence. My dad and I jumped up and ran to the fence. Neighbor yells "IT'S JUST GEORGE" !!! And we could hear laughing on the other side of the fence. I was like WTF?

Well my folks and their next door neighbors got to know each other that day. They all had a ghost named 'George' living in the neighborhood. They (the neighbors) named him that too and had been been living with his presence also for all those years. George. Goodnight.

at a small river down the street from where I lived. I think we were about to enter into the 9th grade in a few days. if I remember. We had covered a lot of territory on the river that day and were tired. Our last attempt to catch something was in a wooded spot that bordered an old cemetary no too far from my families house. To our backs was a very steep banking and the cemetary was up on top of that hill. There was a flat path leading to the spot right at the rivers edge. I was sitting at one spot with my line in the water and my friend was sitting downstream. I was near the transition where the land went from flat to the banking. There was a massive hemlock tree behind me that had to be at least 250 years old. So the densness of the trees and steep banking had cut the amount of the late summer light filtering in and it was darker then being out in the open. We were beat after a long day and all talked out. I was sort of day dreaming waiting for a bite and I suddenly felt a chill in the air. It felt like the hair on the back
of my neck was standing on end and I had a sense of dread and it felt like someone was behind me. I turned, scared shitless, to look behind me slowly but saw nothing. I quickly reeled in my line and got up quickly and looked down stream and my friend was on his feet doing the same looking towards me We hadn't spoken a word to each other. We booked it the hell out out of there. The air temp was still warm just just down the path. We said very little about and it walked home. Years later I was helping my kids find places on a historical scavenger hunt that their history teacher had assigned the class. The cemetary mentioned above was one of the places and I went online to look up the history of the cemetary and came across a link for a paranormal group that had investigated the cemetary. Lore had it that there was an "entity" referred to as the the "Dark Hunter" and a second name that I can't recall seen there. By the road there is a gated locked entrance by a little "mausoleum" dug into the hillside with a large metal door where they apparently used to keep coffins in the winter (or at least that what friends had told us) when the ground was too frozen. Sightings had happened there with a figure being seen in the mist on the ground above the hill. People had also reported seeing red eyes looking out of the dark while driving or walking by at night. The cemetary is in a wooded remote area. So anyway, reading that article jogged by memory of that incident some 30 years earlier. I suspect we may have encountered this "entity".

that occasionally puts her head on my legs at night while in the between stage of sleep.

Back story, We bought this house 2 1/2 hears ago and after buying it were told the previous owner raised dogs to fight, at one time he had 18 in cages in the yard. WOW. no one told us about that before closing. Anyway, one evening while watching teevee I saw a shadow dog move thru the hallway into the master bedroom., I checked the b.r. and master bath, both closets and there was nothing.
I thought, well that's strange.

a few evenings later I'm sitting on my recliner watching something on the tube and again the shadow walked thru the hallway. Checked again and found nothing.

As the year progressed I've seen her do the same thing.more than a few times., she's a mix boxer/lab in black with a really kind face. She'll sit at the side of my chair and occasionally walk thru the house late at night I hear her nails on the hardwood. Sometimes I feel the weight of her head as she lays on the bed and puts it on my legs.

I tell her, "good dog" and she relaxes like a dog will.

Sorry that wasn't more exciting, but it's my story and I'm sticking to it.
