New School Tomorrow

A district in a small landlocked town along the southwest edge of the big city in our county (around 165,000 people) called me about subbing.
They heard about me from someone who teaches at a bigger district to the east.
I told them only grades 6-8, only science & math. They were all in. Got 3 dates already, 2 math, 1 science.
But, why would I really post this?
Because I stopped by to fill out the employment paperwork, and met the principal.
Shazaam!!!!!
Guy is 7 feet tall, and is 325-350 pounds! I'm 5'9" and I didn't get to the bottom of his collarbone. I felt very small!
I'm guessing he gets little crap.
BTW: very pleasant guy. Funny, personable, & engaged. Just one intimidating dude!
BTW 2: VERY diverse school. The groups of kids I saw looked to be fairly close to 1:1:1, white, black, Hispanic. I'll know tomorrow how close that is to actual.

A few thousand less people than Aurora. If we took 2 strangers, put one in each town for a few hours, and pulled them out, and they talked, they'd think they were in the same town.
I grew up there. There were 66,000 people there when we got married in 1980.
In the 90s and forward both the city & the county saw more than a doubling of population.
I get back there once in a while.
But, it was really the size of the principal that made me post about it.
Dude was Shaq sized.

you describe the town as "landlocked", are you, er, normally not locked?

Good luck to you!

The city 75 times the size is north, west & east.
That town is as big as it's going to get unless someone starts building skyscrapers. I'm thinking that's not happening!
Our town could expand greatly to the east or west. Not that I'm counting on it, (or hoping for it) but we're not locked.
6,000 people with sufficient commerce and a prarieland & a water conservation area makes it a good place, just as it is.

The compression in her lumbar spine has her at under 5'1" now.
Even I'm tall compared to her.
My 54 year old sister in 4'10.5" & 90 pounds. Her 2 daughters are bigger than her!
Now, she's small!

This is my 5th day subbing already.
You should have told me 4 weeks ago to be a good boy!
Now, I have a reputation, just because you waited to tell me to be good.
