I'm probably going to hell

Yesterday I found out that the unvaccinated son of the woman my husband had an affair with a few years ago, which ultimately resulted in our divorce, had recently died from COVID. He left behind a wife and three young children. The wife had also contracted COVID but survived.

I know it's evil, but I don't feel a bit sorry for my ex's girlfriend (or whatever she now is). I mean, I can't even imagine the loss of a child, even when the child is an adult, but I just can't find any sympathy in my heart for her. These people are all right wingers who scoffed at all of the ways the rest of us were using to try to prevent ourselves from getting sick.

I just have no sympathy for any of the adults in this scenario.

you don't have to feel guilty simply recognizing that karma works in mysterious ways.

I'm expecting a couple of "Oh, what a shame" opportunities to feel as you do.

That's as much as I could muster when my brother told me about it.

I actually saw the ex-husband the day before yesterday for the first time in over a year. I've sold a property and some of his stuff was still on it, so I texted him that he needed to get it out by the end of the week. He showed up while I was working there, and I helped load the stuff onto his trailer. He had a very major health event right after our divorce, and is still in poor health so he shouldn't have been exerting himself. He looked terrible - like he had aged 10 years since I had last seen him. We had amicable conversation while we were loading the stuff, but then it was done and he didn't leave. The amicable conversation started to take an ugly turn and he left mad. Then that night he ended up back in the hospital. Poor thing.

It's sort of funny that he didn't mention his gf's son's death at all. The funeral was yesterday, but I don't think he was planning to go. Maybe he wasn't welcome. He went on and on about all of the doctor's appointments that he had upcoming, as if I cared, including an appointment he had on the day of his gf's son's funeral (yesterday).

He's a narcissist who likely only really cared about the fact that his gf wasn't going to be able to be his caregiver because she was doing all of that grieving stuff. I mean, how selfish of her.

About an anti-vax lady who was raising two special-needs kids on her own. Got COVID and died. Her brother was quoted as saying "She believed a lot of misinformation. We have doctors and nurses begging us to get the vaccine and she was listening to people who may not even have a high school education."

It is hard to find sympathy.

All I have to do is remind myself about how much they throw around the words "libtard" or "pwning the libs" or some such idiocy.

I quit planting Give-a-fuck seeds.
Behold the field of where I grow my fucks. Cast thine eyes upon it and thou will see that it is barren.

Stolen from another DUer along the way.

I don't *try* to wish bad things on people.

I'm not going to beat myself up over the fact that I still think the ex-husband and his gf (or whatever she now is) are shitty people. Because they are.

Editing to add: All I have to do is remember how much harm these right wing conspiracy theorists do to perpetuate dangerous ideas. The family involved in this endangered the lives of three innocent children.

First of all, there is no Hell.

More importantly, you’ve done nothing wrong. In fact, it sounds like you’ve done the right things for yourself.

Good luck and best wishes!

Today the ex-husband told me about his girlfriend's son's death via text. I suppose he must have thought I'd be sympathetic. I just admonished him for showing up around me when he had been around someone whose family members had COVID. I told him it was f*cked up. He tried to defend himself by saying he wasn't around any of it and was always very careful. I pointed out that he's a liar so I have no reason to believe him. Also, he turned into a MAGAt during the 2016 election season.
